A Very Special Tattoo

The shop is now open and this was my very first walk in. Now being the first walk in is not just the only reason this tattoo is important. The mans name is Joe, and joe told me that this was a special tattoo and then started telling me what he wanted. The tattoo was to represent his father, the bond between them and the experiences his father had given him.

His father gave him the opportunity to travel and have a rich experience filled life. He wanted things in the tattoo to represent that. Joe’s favorite place that he stopped at in his travels was Thailand. He spent several years there and the Thai Jade Buddha was a strong element from that, he wanted the world to represent his travels. The tattoo was to combine into the all seeing third eye the Buddha in the center the world as the Iris and we are looking down upon it like we are looking from the outside in.

Joe told me that he has been to 27 countries and has been to several Tattoo studios all over the world and hadn’t been set on a design. What I then found out about Joe is, he is the founder of Several Cancer foundations raising millions for research and help for cancer patients and families. The reason Joe was up in the city is because his dad has a very serious form of cancer He has been caring for him since May and he had brought his dad here and was waiting for results from Stanford.

He told me he felt like this was the time for his tattoo and he needed it done that night. He didn’t know if he would be back the next day or anytime soon. He had to take his dad to Stanford in the morning for the results and possible testing. I told Joe I would take care of him. I drew all day and then closed the shop and tattooed the piece through till morning.

I have lost family members and friends to Cancer so I’m glad i was there for someone in need who had given so much already.
